Personal Cosplays

The majority of my personal projets involve costume making. It was through independent exploration into costme making and prop making processes that I gained my passion for the industry. The desire to become a professional prop maker felt like a natural progression from my hobbyist beginings.

Pauldrons created using foam and fibreglass. All other body armour made with azote foam treated with multiple PVA layers, bronze base coats and antique gold sponge paint effect. Weathering effects inclued drybrushing with black and brown paints, as well as speckling. Wings created using a copper pipe armature slotted into a backboard. Wig styled using mastik. Costume made using white polycotton and burgundy bias tape. Collar created using wonderflex thermal plastic.

Four-bladed scythe. The individual blades have aluminium 'arms' sandwiching the purple acrylic sheet. The arms are then bolted into the gap between two 9mm plywood boards, that make up the base of the scythe. Decals were made using various combinations of polycarves, azote foams and paint effect. The handle was cut in thirds and reattached with an interference fit. The whole sycthe could be flat packed to fit inside a suitcase.

Scalpel made with pine, cut with a jigsaw. Blade made from offcut of fibreboad. All sprayed matt black, with cloth bandage for the handle. Boots made with black and grey pleather. Jacket with black polycotton and grey pleather, with red bias tape. Helmet made using a repurposed fencing mask, with thick camper-mat foam used for the the panelling, and yellow acrylic sheet for the eyes. White belts made using various foam offcuts.

Chainsaw was built off a discarded petrol can. Blue areas made out of 6mm ply shaped via jigsaw and dremel. Red areas made out of recycled kitchen counter unit made from pine. Glued together with contact adhesive. Blade made using 6mm ply, with a bike chain wrapped around the outside for effect. Jacket made from polycotton and black bias tape. All painting was done by hand using various acrylic paints.

Finger armour was made using heat-treated azote foam, bonded together with contact adhesive. Hand armour is foam reinforced with galvanised wire. Forearm is azote foam shaped around a shin pad. Shoulder armour is a mixture of polycarving (for the ridges) and fibreglass/isopon over craft foam (for the domed paudron). All other armour is azote foam shaped with galvanised wire. All armour base coated in silver, with pewter enamel paint sponged on afterwards.

This rifle was made in four days. I created the sculpt out of various pieces of carboard tube, MDF panels and lathed decals. I took a mould of the 'metal' pieces, and cast it out in fibreglass. The gold barrels at the back are fastcast pieces. The stock is leftover timber with some routing and shaping. This was a fun build, and it felt good to make my own pieces again.
